  • 10. Anniversary Celebration of founding FS Ostroha - November 2017
    10. anniversary
         Celebration of 10th anniversary of founding. For the last 10 years, Ostroha is one of the main element of Slovak community in Ireland. Members had an opportunity to present Slovak traditional culture via their songs, music and dances.
         "Story of Ostroha" - the main program of the evening will reflect key points of Ostroha`s history. Surprise on the end and refreshment after party is what is waiting for you too. Grilled sausages from George Navratil and Goulash from Street Food Fanatic and something sweet too. very tasty.

  • International Song Festival, Clondalkin, November 2016 - International Song Festival Nov2016Fantastic opportunity to present Slovak culture via songs and music. International song festival was held in Clondalkin village. We have been singing together with Irish, Romanian, Georgian, Russian, Botswanan singers.

  • Katarinska Veselica na Martina, The Cobblestone, Smithfield, D7, November 2016 - katarinska zabava 2016 liveEvery once in a while we would like share with you our joy, beautiful tradidional slovak musicsongs, free dance floor, finger food, Slovak brandy`s and again, fun till late hours. Well this time we also had an opportunity to hear a new formation of musicians and singers called "Slovak String" playing folk-rock by slovak artists.

         And as always some lucky people went home beside a smile and great mood, a little surprize they won in raffle full of interested prizes.

  • Hungarian Culture Night, September 2016 - they invited really everyone to explore, discover and participate in arts, Hungarian gastronomy and different European folk dances. 
    hungarian culture night 20168 different and very talented artist introduced their amazing work. Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. Very interesting and culture rich event. 
    Just fyi, after the Hungarian dance workshop there was Hungarian wine tasting! Hope to see you there next time...

 

  • The 25th anniversary of the VisegradV4   June 2016 Group cooperation June 2016 - alliance of four Central European states Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland – for the purpose of furthering their European cooperation and for advancing their political, economic and energy cooperation.
         The event was held on 9th of June 2016 in the Residence of the Polish Ambassador

  • White World dance and music show - Liberty Hall, Dublin - April 2016 Fs Ostroha hosted in Dublin members of vranovcan group fotoSlovak Folklore Ensemble Vranovcan with their Black & White World dance and music show.     


    Almost 300 people gathered together in The Liberty Hall to see this fantastic show, story of forbidden love.

  •  Wedding Adare Village, April 2016 - adare wedding ostrohaFew weeks ago we had an opportunity to celebrate marriage of the beautifull Slovak-Irish couple in Adare village. 
         It was fantastic wedding and we have enjoyed dancing, playing a singing for such a good audience.

  • Holiday World Show, January 2016 - Holiday World Show in Dublin is fantastic opportunity holiday world show 2016to present beauty of own country and spread it to the world. Slovak embassy in Ireland took a part and present Slovakia as tourist destinations through publications about nature beauties, cultural and technical monuments, rural and urban tourism.

         Ostroha showed beauty of Slovak traditions through songs, music dance and costumes.

 

  • Credance & FS Ostroha, November 2015 - credance a fs ostroha 2015dacne group Credance from Slovakia came to join our traditional "Katarina Jamboree" and also to teach us some cool moves.

         This event turned out to be another amazing evening among our friends of various nationalities, where everybody was engoying our traditional Slovak folklore music, songs and dnace. One thing is writing about it, but another living  and enjoying it.

  • Slovak music legend has been on scene since 1988. Their music is a mix of alternative and easy-listening sound with touch of humour not only in lyrics but in specific “dance” performance by their frontman Jan Kuric.

    Yes,"Vidiek was in Dublin on 29th October 2015", in Button Factory, Dublin 2, as a part of their tour 
    “Why Should I Go Home” together with PACORA Trio to create special and limited Slovak folky sound. Additionally they sang one of their famous songs “Vidieeeeeecan” (Country man) with  Slovak Folkore Ensemble  Ostroha, it was super fun and yet another great event also thanks to slovak band GREMMY
  • "Smithfield and Stoneybatter food festival October 2015 "

    We have been invited to Pifko Bar to celebrate food festival In Smithfield and Stoneybatter.
         FS Ostroha have been representing Slovak traditional dances and songs. After performance we organized a class of Slovak dance which everybody enjoyed. See you next time :-)

  • "Lucan Festival " - Another fantastic day with Slovak community living in Ireland! Slovak bands Gremmy and FS Ostroha presented lucan festival 2015varietof Slovak music and dance on both stages. We also joined the local market by selling traditional food, drinks and souvenirs. 
       
         People had an opportunity to taste homemade cakes as well as talk to Ostroha members about Slovakia.
     
         Huge Thank you to everyone who helped out with running the market and thanks to Paul Madden for his invitation. Hope to see you all next year!

  •      Not everybody is so lucky to have christmas dinner with the family. Knights, organized meal for 2400 people (including homeless) in RDS, Dublin. We had an oportunity to present litle bit of our culture.

  • "Paris 2014 - FS Nadeje & FS Ostroha"  -FS Ostroha is once again out of Ireland. This time we accepted an invitation Snímkaof Slovak Folkore Ensamble in France FS Nadeje. 

         It was great experience for us, not only to see our friends after long time, but also perform infront of Ostroha Paris 2014-16french mixed audience which was very rewarding and pleasent. It was very good opportunity to return their visit in Dublin.


         We  all had a really good time and really enjoyed Nadeje`s hospitality.
    Thanks to our good relationship with Nadeje we hope that it was not the last trip to France ;) (few photos)

  • "Vianočný workshop - December 2014"
    pic 1     Opať sme raz prežili krásny predvianočný decembrový deň plný fantázie, kreativity a radosti.

  •        Another superb event. On Saturday 22.11. Fs Ostroha hosted dance group “Carovne ostrohy” in the Tivoli theatre in Dublin. This evening was very special for its “Rocky style” when Carovne Ostrohy demonstrated their profile program Rockom Krokom full of energy, speed and dance virtuosity.
         
     
    Ostroha added to the program traditional o-263dances, 
    songs and few solo music pieces. After the  almost 2 hours performance on the stage there was Slovak jamboree until very late. Event was co-financed by USZZ.          TheFujarais a large folk shepherd`s three holes pipe originated in Slovakia. For its unique low deep tone, exclusive design and ornaments was fujara proclaimed in the UNESCO list ofMasterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.

    fb 20141106 12 37 53 saved picture    During last October`s  weekend, non profit organization Dusa Fujary with support of Office for Slovaks leaving abroad, organized three days "Fujara workshop" in central Slovakia for people who want to learn how to play Fujara, or simply just to improve their skills. Three of our members were delegated and travelled to Slovakia to attend this workshop. It was beautiful and fruitful weekend with fantastic lector Dusan Holik
    and his associates.

     Many couples want to celebrate and reaffirm their love and commitment for one another by renewing their marriage vows, image00006either privately or publicly, and by saying "I do" again. Our friends Marcela and Gusto Markovic decided to do this after 24 years being together on Saturday 25thOctober in  St. John`s Church in Nurney co. Kildare.     1-22     Slovak Cultural Week 2014 was held in Centre for Creative PracticesDublin 2 during 31st of July until 3rd of August, organized by Slovak centre – Ireland. We had an opportunity to show variety of Slovak traditional culture via songs, dance and costumes. It was great day and we had a lot of fun. Pictures taken byJuraj Paciga
  •               We were pleased to be part of another great DSC 1544-001event held in May in Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Clondalkin. Got very good feedback from its coordinator Lyuba Moore. Intercultular Traditional Dance Festival was great fun, met new people and saw great, dynamic performance of many groups with their colorfull costumes.   •               st. patrick clane 2014For the 2nd time the Slovaks have had an opportunity to present themselves on a well known festival of St. Patrick in Clane. Ostroha was invited to participate in this year's traditional St. Patrick's parade organised in Clane, a small town in county Kildare, on 17th March 2014. We joined the parade together with the local people and it was great fun. See here ;)

  •               There were few occasions during the Christmas when members of Ostroha
    celebrated this festive season. The one would be Christmas concert held on Sunday 15.12.2013 in St. Saviour church, Lower Dominick street, Dublin 1. Almost 250 people enjoyed Slovak Christmas Carols and Nativity play.

         On Wednesday 25.12.2013 we had opportunity to perform on Christmas dinner for more than 500 homeless and poor families from Dublin. This was a beautiful occasion to bring joy and love to those who needs little extra warmness. We also met Eamonn Campbel   from well known band The Dubliners.
           
          Hope you had a nice Christmas and good start of 2014.

  • Christmas Concert 2013 and Slovak jamboree - Saturday 18th November belonged to Slovaks in Ireland, where folk ensamble Ostroha in cooperation christmas 2013with the Christian community of Slovaks leaving in Ireland and the Embassy of the Slovak republic in Dublin prepared for theirs expatriates 2 hours lasted program followed by Slovak jamboree (Katarínska zábava). The event attended nearly 250 guests consisting of 10 representatives of embassies of different countries in Ireland. Special guest was the oldest Slovak living on green island Joe Veselsky whom we congratulate on his 95 birthday. On stage we hosted Folk Ensemble Nadeje from France.

    International Charity Bazaar Dublin is an Irish Charity run by The Diplomatic and Local Communities in Ireland. Ostroha had an opportunity to perform on this very prestigious occasion. The party atmosphere helped along by lively music from Cuban DJ Tony and a varied & highly entertaining cultural programme, flags and national dress of the 40 plus Embassy stalls, and the excited chatter from close on 5,000 visitors.

  • Dublin Culture Night 2013 and another great opportunity to pculture night 2013resent Slovak traditional dance, songs and music. 

    Ostroha presented diversity of Slovak folklore on Friday 20th Sept in Temple Bar, Dublin. 
         The show was live broadcasted through
    Near TV.

  • First weekend of August belongs to the biggest International festival of Slovak folklore in janoskova dukat 01Czech RepublicJánošíkovdukát. The 15th year of the Festival was held in beautifull premises of the wooden town in Roznov pod Radhostem. We certainly couldn’t miss it. During the three days, we repeatedly presented our program and showed that We “Slovaks in Ireland” maintain and develop national culture of Slovakia as well.

    During the festival, there was a championship of  Wallachian Kingdom in churning butter where our girls churned more than 3 kg of domestic butter and won the first place. Festival atmosphere was great so we bring you at least a few photos.

 

  • The 6th International mass and Celebration of Culturesostroha rathmines 2013 took place on Fathers Day 16.06.2013. It was a fantastic, vibrant, colorful and meaningful celebration of the diversity of cultures in Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners Church in Rathmines. There was a 6 o`clock mass, followed by a celebration of cultures in St. Mary`s Community Centre Afterwards. Girls from Ostroha sang for the 6th time in this wonderful event.

    There was a Slovak Cultural week in the  Centre for Creative Practices on Pembroke  MG 0295street between 7th - 14th June 2013 organized by Slovak Centre - Ireland. Visitors could attend various cultural, artistic and music activities throughout the week. Satruday belonged to folklore and Ostroha presented variety of Slovak traditional dance, songs and music. Vice - chairman of Slovak government Erika Jurinova honoured us with her visit and had an opportunity to see our program.
  •     Family day out - Clane 2013Ostroha had opportunity to present their program during CLANE MAY SUMMER PARTY in The Westgrove Hotel, clane on Sunday 19th May at 3pm. Party have been organized by Mary Dune, Chairperson of Clane St. Patrick's Day Festival

    "You were brilliant and it was great to watch you perform. Everybody loved you. Hope to talk to you again soon" said Mary

  •     Manchester, London and Dublin were the cities visited by

    “Radosinske naivne divadlo” at their current tour.

    RND Dublin Ostroha-8    12th May played in Dublin Tivoli Theatre The play “Stastne konce” (Happy Endings). Right after the show we had the opportunity to showcase a few dances from our repertoire during the After Party in Restaurants The Czech Inn. Mood of the party can come near few pictures by Jan Lukac.

 

  •    During the first week of May we hosted in Ireland dance pedagogue and choreographer Mgr.art Simona Dikaszova who taught us a new choreography from village of Terchova.

         After 4 days of hard training on Saturday the 4th  of May in Murrays Pub, O `Connell Street in Dublin, we held school of the Slovak folk dance and folk jamboree. The event was attended also by people of different nationalities. Dance party lasted until late evening. We believe that you all liked and we will meet you  again in the future.

  •    On 26th of April was FS Ostroha part of grand launch of new Slovakian Radio broadcasting, which started on the 1st of May 2013.

    We opened whole evening with traditional girls dance "karička", followed by beautiful songs.     904272 500213926699930 511337436 o
         V.I.P. agency did a great job by inviting over few celebrities from our home land who were a true stars of the night and also perform few songs. Jaro Slavik and Katarina Landlova got everybody singing along. Cake, great atmosphere, nice people and new Slovak Radio; another great event with Ostroha ;)

 

  •      Workshop Easter 2013 - Our goal is to continue to promote and retain folk dance, folk songs and folk music of Slovakia and to promote the education and training of people of any age who show genuine interest in Slovak national heritage. Promote Slovak culture, heritage in Ireland, keeping Slovak traditions and the elevation of national identity.

         One of the most known tradition over the Easter in Slovakia is decorating easter eggs and making easter willow tree plaits.

  • 485997 10151515117529805 56412303 n     For the first time ever, the Slovaks have had an opportunity to present themselves on a well known festival of Saint Patrick. Ostroha was invited to participate in this year's traditional St. Patrick's parade organised in Clane, a small town in county Kildare, on 17th March 2013.      We joined the parade together with the local people and almost 20 other nationalities and greeted thousands of people who came to celebrate the day despite of the rainy weather. We are delighted that we could present Slovakia and the Slovaks living in Ireland on an event like this. (short video)
  •      The photography exhibition by Czech and Slovak photographers (Eye of the Beholder II.) was ceremonially opened on 9 March 2013 at the County Library, Tallaght, Dublin 24, in the presence of the Czech and Slovak ambassadors and other selected guests. Members of Ostroha presented traditional slovak songs and music band played few pieces during opening ceremony.

  •      Another very successful performance by Ostroha took place on Satruday 9th February in The Tivoli theatre in Dublin 6. More than 200 people from different nationalities enjoyed our journey through the year in old Slovak village. We presented beauty and variety of Slovak traditions, customs via dance, songs and musical compositions. Singers, dancers and music band were appreciated by thunderous applause and standing ovation. 
         Slovak ambassador Dusan Matulay congratulated us in his speech to the the anniversary and praised relationship to tradition and vitality of Slovak community in Ireland. Short video from the premiere can be viewed below

  There it was, Christmas concert 2012 on the 16th December 2012 in St. Saviour Church, Lower Dominic street in Dublin 1.   •          17th November was a day of 5th anniversary of ensemble founding. In this occasion Ostroha had a big celebration and performance in Tivoli Theatre on Francis street Dublin. Our programme “Seasons  of The Village” was  based on typical year in the old Slovak village, interpreted via slovak traditions, songs and dances from various Slovak regions.

    Fantastic food from different parts of the world was accompanied with the vibrancy and diversity of Slovak folklore.

  •      For the third year we were part of International exhibition and showcase of the culture and arts of the various nations and communities Expo Nations in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
         Our performance took place on Saturday 11th of August 2012 and we were among of Spanish flamenco, Bright lights - Ulster dancers, Virtuoso Ivanov - Bulgarian musicians and Expo- Nations youth choir.

  • 21 members of Slovak Folklore ensemble Ostroha packed their suitcases with traditional costumes and travelled  to Slovakia for  one of the biggest folklore festival Podpolianske folklorne slavnosti held in Detva between Friday 06th July and  Monday 9th July.
         Ostroha performed during Sunday`s programme “
    Krajanska Nedela” organized by Office for Slovaks living Abroad (USZZ) with new dance from Telgart, songs from Terchova and special male dance Verbunk.

15th of June to 22nd June 2012 - the Centre for Creative Practices (15 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2)  the Slovak Centre – Ireland presented the SLOVAK CULTURAL WEEK 2012”. This was the third year in a row where you could get familiar with Slovak culture, folklore,  artists, cinematography and many more.

  • Open Day at the Lantern centre on Synge street, Harcourt on Friday June 8th. Reflecting the many cultures, religions and interest groups which use the Lantern Centre facilities, the event full of performances and workshops in music, dance, meditation techniques, martial arts, yoga, displays of art, photographs and international costumes and much more... One great evening along with wonderful people and great atmosphere ;)

To make the unhappy people happier. This was our idea on St. Patricks day Eve on 16th March. Our programme was seen by 2 dozen homeless migrant workers who have lost their  jobs and their place in society.

The performance took place in a Hostel run by Depaul Ireland in Charlemont Street. Some images from the day can be seen here.

  • Slovak Center - Ireland and FS Ostroha, organized the 4th Slovak Ball in Dublin. Great performance, delicious food and perfect athmosphere could be heard out of The Regency Hotel in Drumcondra at night on 11. 02. 2012. FS Ostroha presented themself with new dance from the middle of Slovakia "Horehron". You can see amazing photos from this event on www.jancek.net.

  • December was once again lid by Chrismas spirit, also FS Ostroha tried to bring our traditional Chrismas closer not only to Slovak people living in Ireland, but all people enjoying this beautiful time of the year. Christmas concerts at Market square in Kildare and St. Saviours church in Dublin created great atmosphere. We hope that you enjoyed this occasion and for those who could not make it, here is short replay from the Concert and also full version is available in our Video section (video was made by Jan Lukac).   • Slovakian archibishop Mons. Robert Bezak visited Dublin between 21. - 24. October 2011, where along with new slovak priest Eugen Rybansky (apart from work they had scheduled for the weekend) celebrated evening mass for slovak comunity. Before the mass, FS Ostroha performed in the chrurch to show that even out of our homeland we look after our traditions and history.
    Arcibiskup Mons. Róbert Bezák počas uplynulého víkendu navštívil Dublin. Vo večerných hodinách sa spoločne s dublinským arcibiskupom Diarmuidom Martinom stretli so slovenským veľvyslancom v Írsku Romanom Bužekom. V nedeľu podvečer zakončil pastoračnú návštevu v Dubline slávením eucharistie spoločne s približne dvoma stovkami Slovákov, kde aj FS Ostroha pripsela pestrým programom.

  • Expo-Nations 2011 - Saturday 13th August 2011 - Expo-Nations is an initiative of Place of Victory for All Nations (PVN). It provides an opportunity for people from different nations to learn more about each other in a fun-filled and relaxed atmosphere along with FS Ostroha ;).   • The 4th annual Rathmines parish International Mass took place on Sunday 26th June in Church of Mary Immaculate, 52 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6, during the mass people from different countries (along with FS Ostroha) contributed with their songs and life stories, followed by a Celebration of Cultures in St Mary’s Community Centre after mass.

  • 2nd Slovak Cultural Week in Dublin (17/06 - 24/06) - the focal point of the Slovak Cultural Week is an exhibition of Slovak artists living in Ireland.On 18/06 Saturday 7pm - 11pm - open evening for all who fell in love with Slovak traditional music, Slovak wine, Slovak people and all other Slovak things. The performer of the evening is the Slovak Centre – Ireland’s folklore group known as Folklore Group OSTROHA.

Global Food, Fashion, Music & Dance | Community/Music/Dance/Heritage/Food | June 14 - Featuring a Fashion Show of ethnic costume, a film, music and dance from Culture Fusion Kidios, FS Ostroha, Rialto Twirlers, UCD Jazz Society, Core Trad Band and the Bini Dancers, and the opportunity to sample traditional food from three continents, this is going to be a night of amazing entertainment from around the world!
  • The United Nations were celebrating the International Day of Families on May 15th. As an NGO in Special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. The topic given for the meeting was: “Confronting Family Poverty and Social Exclusion”

  • FS Ostroha performed at Celebration of Europe Day to mark 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering Musical entertainment and talks from volunteer groups. On Monday, 9th May 2011, 12.00 - 2.30pm, European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2. Performers: Clondalkin Intercultural World Choir, Slovak Folklore Ensemble Ostroha,Wild Bees Nest, Winter Jazzmen and more.

To make the unhappy people happier. This was our idea on St. Patricks day Eve on 16th March. Our programme was seen by 2 dozen homeless migrant workers who have lost their  jobs and their place in society.

The performance took place in a Hostel run by Depaul Ireland in Charlemont Street. Some images from the day can be seen here.

 

 

 

  • "Lucan Festival " - Another fantastic day with Slovak community living in Ireland! Slovak bands Gremmy and FS Ostroha presented lucan festival 2015varietof Slovak music and dance on both stages. We also joined the local market by selling traditional food, drinks and souvenirs. 
        
         People had an opportunity to taste homemade cakes as well as talk to Ostroha members about Slovakia.
     
         Huge Thank you to everyone who helped out with running the market and thanks to Paul Madden for his invitation. Hope to see you all next year!

Slovak embassy in Ireland took a part and present Slovakia as tourist destinations through publications about nature beauties, cultural and technical monuments, rural and urban tourism. 

         Ostroha showed beauty of Slovak traditions through songs, music dance and costumes.
